Modders' workshop · first door

Contribute to the Season

Illustrators, 3D modders, writers, mapmakers, scripters, testers, lore fans: every talent has a place, from the biggest job to the smallest touch. For each way to help: the level, what you need, where to post, and who approves.

  • no tools: a talent, the lore, the game
  • with the kit tools: RPFM, CAIME
  • seasoned modder: Lua, 3D

First of all

The project's rules

Three rules, the same for everyone, from the first name suggested to the last script.

Where to post

Three ways in

Whether it comes through Discord, the map or the code, an idea follows the same path.

On Discord

The meeting place: the Da Modding Den server, Modding Square category, Project Collab channel, then the Season's thread. That's where we talk, share out the work, post pictures and files, and ask to join the beta.

On the site's map

“Suggest an idea” pins it to its exact place: a name, a town, a border, a road, a faction, the terrain, the lore, the game, a bug. Anyone can back it or reply.

On GitHub

The mod's code is open: the tools, the Lua scripts, the texts and the modders' guide. Season Expanded is built there in public, step by step. No Warhammer I or CA files.

Draw, paint, sculpt

Every quest, incident, event and loading screen needs its picture; every town, a look of its own.

“The Tarnished Mirror”, one of our current illustrations, generated with AI: it can be redone by hand.

  • Hand-made illustrations

    You need
Drawing or painting. For events: a sepia wash on parchment, with no text or frame, in 16:9; the game shows them at 800 × 450.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.

Today's illustrations are generated with AI, from prompts true to the lore. Charles would be delighted to see them redone by hand, one picture at a time.

  • 3D towns on the campaign map

    You need
3D and its tools. Our guides don't cover them yet.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
    Charles decides.

Town models so every town has a look of its own, special places and landmarks: we talk about it on the Discord.

Write the story

The Season lives on its story: the lords' chronicles, quests, events, and names that are right.

  • Quests and missions

    You need
A lore idea with its source is enough to start; with RPFM, you can write it into the tables yourself.
    Where to post
Suggest an idea on the map, topic “The game”; or on Discord
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.
  • Events, dilemmas, incidents

    You need
A scene from the lore and its source; the choices and their effects, if you can see them; RPFM to write them.
    Where to post
Suggest an idea on the map, topic “The game”; or on Discord
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.
  • Lore and heraldry

    You need
Games Workshop's books and the exact page; the official form of each name in each language; for a coat of arms or a flag, its source.
    Where to post
Suggest an idea on the map, topic “The lore”; or on Discord
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.
  • Texts and translations

    You need
A language, and Games Workshop's official names in it. The site and the mod are in French and English.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.

Draw the map

The expansion to all of Bretonnia is still under discussion: every name, every border, every road.

  • New areas

    You need
Regions, provinces, names, borders, roads and passes: the lore and a mapmaker's eye to suggest; CAIME to paint them.
    Where to post
Suggest an idea on the map, topic “A town, a region”; or on Discord
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.

In the map's layers, “For modders” gives each hex's coordinates.

  • The expansion's terrain and set dressing

    You need
The “Terrain, province by province” cards; the Creative Assembly set dressing that suits them; Terry, for those who know it.
    Where to post
Suggest an idea on the map, topic “The terrain”; or on Discord
    Who approves
    Charles decides.

Tune the game

The gameplay is Warhammer III's, the story Warhammer I's: “lore first, harder than the base game, grimdark, playable and fun”.

  • Techs and skills

    You need
RPFM. A tech, a lord skill, a trait, a building: a fine first contribution.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
    Charles decides.

Buildings, landmarks and tech trees follow Warhammer III.

  • Factions and lords

    You need
RPFM and the lore. The game faction that holds a place can also be suggested on the map.
    Where to post
Suggest an idea on the map, topic “A faction”; or on Discord
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.
  • Units

    You need
RPFM, and the “add a unit” procedure in the RPFM guide.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
Reviewed against the lore, sources in hand; Charles decides.
  • Balance

    You need
A game played is enough to talk about it: the lord, the turn, who dominates and who collapses. RPFM to tune it.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
    Charles decides.

A lore threat keeps its strength: balance is set through wars, not by weakening it.

  • Lua scripts and mechanics

    You need
Lua and the game's events: the lords' chronicles, their own mechanics, the map's events.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
    Charles decides.

Play and test

The Season is judged in game: volunteers' games tell what works, and what breaks.

The Season in Warhammer III: the Oak of Ages and the King's Glade (in-game capture).

  • Beta testing

    You need
The game, the Realm of The Wood Elves DLC, and an invitation. Tell us about the game: the lord, the turn, a screenshot; after a crash, the newest files in the crash_report folder; if something is stuck, your save.
    Where to post
On Discord, in the Season's thread
    Who approves
    Charles decides.

What matters most: crashes, turns that won't end, balance, flaws on the map.

  • The workshop guides

    You need
A mistake, a pitfall you hit, a tip, a newer tool version.
    Where to post
The “Suggest an idea” link at the foot of each guide
    Who approves
Checked, then added to the guide with its source.

From posting to the beta

The path of an idea

  1. Posted

On the map, pinned to its place; or on Discord, in the Season's thread.

  2. Reviewed against the lore

Sources in hand: the book, the page, the official name in each language.

  3. Decided by Charles

Kept or set aside: he holds the whole together, the map and the game.

  4. Built into the mod

Data, scripts, texts, pictures or map, in Charles's workshop, under our saison_ keys.

  5. Played in the beta

Volunteers play it; their feedback comes back as new ideas.

On the map, every idea shows its status:OpenUnder reviewKeptDoneSet aside

What stays in Charles's workshop. The pack, the starting position and the compiled terrain contain Warhammer I files: they aren't published, and your work goes in as ideas, sources, pictures, data and tests. So the beta is private, invitation only, and no Workshop link is published. Two versions are planned on the Workshop: the map at its original size, and Saison Expanded. To play, the Realm of The Wood Elves DLC is required.

Saison Expanded, on the other hand, is built in public: the build, live.

First step

Where to start

  1. Join Da Modding Den, then the Season's thread (Modding Square, Project Collab).
  2. Tell us who you are and what tempts you: a family from this page, and your level.
  3. Read the workshop guide for your tool, and how the map is built.
  4. Start small: a source, a name, a picture, a tech.

First tasks, no tools needed

All of it, told by Charles: Join the workshop.
